As if it isn't hard enough...

I think I'll limit myself a bit.

With Illustration Friday, each topic provides numerous sketches and ideas, but I have to narrow it down. My thoughts this morning were, "why don't I cultivate a specific character to use for each week's topic?" I still have the freedom to pursue the other sketches and ideas. And really, I'm not limiting myself, but rather giving a more specific direction... one week is rather short to really throw together a grand composition, all the while managing our home, caring for our son, cooking, cleaning, shopping...

I made a list once, regarding all of my responsibilities and qualifications by working in our home:

Job title: CEO, March Residence, est. 2006
Description: Domestic Engineer
Home Management Specialist
Director of Health, Education and Welfare
Head of Childcare: MOM (Manager of Miracles)
Creative Director
Kitchen Manager - Head Chef, Baker & Meal Planner
Facilities Manager
Housekeeper
Counselor
Secretary - Maintain Records, Write/Proof/Edit Publications

Whew. I was tired just looking at it! And we only have 1 little boy... imagine 2, or 3, or... WeLL, I'll just leave it at that!

Anyway, I'll be working on my character and focusing on the creative process that goes with that. I'll have another I.F. submission hopefully by next Thursday!

  1. Hello, Julia. It's so nice to meet you! I've recently decided to make a go of calling myself a full time illustrator/artist, too. Even went so far as to list it as my occupation on my kids' emergency contact forms for the schools. Yikes! I can sympathize with you, though. Being a stay at home mom and an artist (especially if you're like me and enjoy being lazy) is very difficult.

Your art is wonderful! I love your paintings and the colors you use. The strokes on the kitty portrait are fabulous. Welcome to IF! I'm really looking forward to seeing more of your work. Good luck to you!
